Research on the history of Dutch-Japanese relations is not only supported, but also carried out within the Institute. This research is the main subject of the publications of the Institute. Three current projects:

Translation study of the diaries of the Dutch trading factory at Deshima 1800-1860. Ten volumes have been published.

The Diaries of the Dutch Trading Factory at Deshima

Publication of the table of contents of the diaries of the Dutch trading factory at Deshima 1641-1860 (in cooperation with Leiden University). In 1992 the first volume The Deshima Diaries-Marginalia 1700-1740 was published. The second volume covering the years 1740-1800 was published in 2004. The third volume covering the years 1641-1660 is scheduled for 2009.
